A School That Outperforms Against the Odds
Imbaseni Primary School has nearly 1,000 students and 11 classrooms, meaning many children study in shifts, in overcrowded rooms, or under trees. There is no electricity on site. Students share one textbook between six. And despite all of this, Imbaseni consistently leads the Arusha region in Tanzania’s national secondary school entrance exam. The gap between what these students achieve and the resources they have to achieve it with is one of the most striking things about the school. What it needs is not more motivation, it has that. What it needs is infrastructure: classrooms, textbooks, toilets, solar power, and scholarships for graduates who cannot afford secondary school fees.
What Deeper Africa’s Sponsorship Supports
As a school sponsor, Deeper Africa contributes to the programs and infrastructure that Imbaseni’s students need to continue leading the region. This includes support for classroom construction, starting with desks. Every Deeper Africa Tanzania safari booking contributes to this sponsorship, making a Tanzania community safari with Deeper Africa a direct investment in the children of Imbaseni village.
Visiting Imbaseni on Your Safari
A visit to Imbaseni Primary School is one of the most memorable parts of any Deeper Africa Tanzania itinerary. Travelers are invited to join a class, bring something to share: a map showing where you’re from, an activity, a book, and spend time with the teachers and students who make this school what it is. For families traveling with children, it is consistently one of the highest points of the trip: a direct, unscripted encounter with kids the same age, in the same world, with a completely different daily reality. Five Deeper Africa Tanzania itineraries include a visit to Imbaseni: Gems of Tanzania, Tanzania With Kids, Deeper Tanzania: Northern Migration, Tanzania Adventurer, and Deeper Tanzania: Southern Migration.
