Bwindi Community Hospital
The hospital began as a modest local clinic started by American doctor Scott Kellermann. With support from his church community, he created the Kellermann Foundation to raise capital and bring US physicians into this community. Doctors have been coming ever since on two-month service rotations. And Bwindi is now one of the best hospitals in East Africa, providing comprehensive in-patient treatment, out-patient care and vital community health services. One Deeper Africa traveler, a top cancer surgeon, opted to visit the hospital while on safari. He was so impressed he volunteered to participate in surgeries during his stay and told us it’s one of the greatest things he’s ever gotten to do.
