Wild chimpanzees have made their home in the mountain forests in Mahle National Park near Lake Tanganyika. With no roads in the park, humans enter on foot or travel along the coast by boat. Trek twice into Mahale Forest with expert local guides who work daily with the chimps and are skilled at tracking their movements. The chimpanzees are not afraid of people, so you have close encounters watching these playful primates interact, eat, play, and do all things that chimps are famous for. Mahale is also home to gorgeous butterflies and birds. Relax on the shores of Lake Tanganyika at either the cozy Kungwe Beach Lodge or the more upscale Greystoke Mahale.
