Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit
This is a serious anti-poaching operation. Courageous armed rangers patrol 50,000 square kilometers of land in two national parks surrounding Victoria Falls, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Charles Brightman started the program in 1999. Since then, the team has removed more than 18,000 of the wire snares poachers use as traps. And they’ve arrested more than 350 hardened poachers. They also free trapped animals and treat animals injured by traps. If you think freeing a writhing warthog from a trap is easy, think again. It’s 150 pounds of fear, and that’s just the warthog.
