Juvenile Western Lowland Gorilla

September 24th is the time to appreciate the wild gorillas and consider how to help them. Gorilla day was launched in 2017 by the Diane Fossey Gorilla Fund. It’s an annual event to celebrate gorillas and organize actions that will preserve and protect these magnificent primates.
Below is a link to the Gorilla Fund where you will find multiple ways to help the gorillas. We encourage you to pitch in. Among other activities, you can:
Visiting these magnificent primates should be on everyone’s bucket list. Here are the best places to visit gorillas. These can be enjoyed both as a luxury safari and as an off-the-beaten-path wild adventure:
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda. Mountainous and misty, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest seems suspended in the clouds. This ancient rainforest is one of Africa’s most biologically diverse areas. See mountain gorillas and 350 varieties of birds.
Mgahinga National Forest, Uganda. Set in the rugged Virunga Mountains bordering Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These sectors of the Virunga Mountains hold more than half of the last mountain gorillas left on the planet. You’ll be trekking on the slopes of an Afro-montane rainforest on the border of Uganda and Rwanda. See mountain gorillas, golden monkeys and enjoy superb birdwatching.
Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda. A bamboo forest, surrounded by towering volcanic peaks. The terrain here is hilly, and the air is cool. This area has the largest population of mountain gorillas. Known as the “land of a Thousand Hills” with five of the eight Virunga Volcanoes within the park this is one of the most beautiful scenes on earth. See mountain gorillas and hundreds of tropical birds.
Wherever you choose to visit, the gorillas will be happy to see you.
