Batwa Development Program
For millennia, the Batwa were forest hunter-gatherers, living in harmony with mountain gorillas. In 1992, Uganda evicted them to make way for Bwindi National Park. Dispossessed, the Batwa fell into desperate poverty. BDP has worked tirelessly to correct this injustice. BDP empowers the Batwa with education, infrastructure, food security, and sustainable income development, plus they are advocates for indigenous rights. Enjoy the Batwa Experience, an active adventure that celebrates Batwa culture and history. It starts with a hike through the forest, learning the secrets of the animals and medicinal plants. Learn about the spirituality of the forest people and share dancing and stories, all part of a day of fun. Or get more involved and help build a house for a Batwa family.
