Bigodi Community Project
You go to Kibale Forest, Uganda, for the chimps. While there, be sure to visit Bigodi, where enterprising community members joined forces to create an immersive personal introduction to their village and their wildlife. Guided by an educated young person from the village, you can take a nature walk through the Bigodi wetlands, a birder’s paradise with more than 200 avian species including the Great Blue Turaco, plus multiple monkey species. You can meet community elder John Tinka. Join him for a home-cooked Ugandan meal with many delicious dishes. You can also stop by the craft shop to browse products made by Bigodi residents. All proceeds from these ventures are returned to and shared by community members.
