How Travel for Impact Works
Travel for Impact operates a circular economy model: tourism dollars fund community businesses, and those businesses supply goods and services back to the tourism industry. Deeper Africa contributes $2 per traveler and lodges and camps contribute $1 per night you stay in their camp. These donations go into the Impact Fund, directing revenue into community programs and small business development across Northern Botswana.
What the Funding Supports
Travel for Impact directs contributions across four program areas. Children and Youth programs fund education initiatives for young people around the Okavango Delta. Conservation programs support the wildlife protection work that makes Botswana one of Africa’s greatest safari destinations. Culture and Heritage programs preserve traditional knowledge, crafts, and practices, including basket weaving, ostrich eggshell jewelry, and textile work sold through the UNESCO co-funded Crafted Botswana platform. Women’s Empowerment programs support female entrepreneurs and organizations including AGLOW-Pokolong, which assists disadvantaged elderly people without family support.
The People’s Path
Travel for Impact developed The People’s Path: the first cultural tourism circuit in North-west Botswana. The circuit connects travelers with community-led experiences: visiting artisans at work, joining cultural activities, and purchasing handmade goods directly from makers. Deeper Africa travelers on the Gems of Botswana safari have the opportunity to engage with these experiences as part of their itinerary.
How Your Deeper Africa Safari Contributes
All of Deeper Africa’s Botswana safaris support Travel for Impact directly. Every booking contributes to the Impact Fund — channeling tourism revenue into children’s programs, women’s businesses, cultural heritage projects, and conservation work across Northern Botswana. When you travel with Deeper Africa to Botswana, your safari dollar funds not just a wildlife experience, but the livelihoods and futures of the communities living alongside the elephants, wild dogs, and big cats you come to see.
