Sea Sense

One in four Tanzanians lives in the coastal zone, relying on marine resources for their livelihood. This ecosystem sustains many endangered marine species. Some, including sea turtles and dugongs, are critically endangered. More than 60 Sea Sense conservation officers serve as ambassadors for conservation, linking Sea Sense to the wider Swahili communities. The work covers six coastal districts, about a third of the coastline. Results are impressive, protecting hundreds of nests and helping thousands of hatchlings safely reach the sea. Nest poaching in Sea Sense communities has been reduced from 80 percent to less than 2 percent. Your travel supports this work.
